15 Things to do in Bangkok with Kids

Child Playing

When we moved to Thailand for our second winter abroad from Canada, we landed in Bangkok first. We quickly moved from Bangkok to Hua Hin and then down to Phuket as we wanted to be near the beach.

After a few weeks of beach life, we realized it was tricky to find anything to do with our toddler. Playgrounds, parks, and kid-related activities were non-existent in the various areas we stayed in that were close to the beach.

We made up our minds to move back to Bangkok, as there we would be able to find all sorts of indoor and outdoor activities to do with our daughter.

Here is a list of some of our favourite things to do with a toddler while staying in Bangkok:

1. Sansiri Backyard

This adorable, little outdoor community garden is fun for all ages. A quaint little space that has gardens with fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs that anyone can take home with them when they have been harvested. There are animals to see and feed such as goats, sheep, ducks, fish, and butterflies. You can grab a snack or drink at the small kiosk set up. Our daughter enjoyed being up close with the goat and playing in the sandpit. Location | Website | Price: Free

2. Kidzoona

Located in Gateway Mall, this indoor playground is at Ekamai BTS station. This is one of our favourite indoor play spaces as it is affordable for your time there. We would often book a 2-hour time slot and our daughter would happily play there without being bored the entire time. From kinetic sand to dramatic play, tricycles to ball pits, trampolines to building blocks or colouring to inflatable rolling tubes, the possibilities for fun are endless. Location | Website | Price: $16CAD (2 hours of play)

3. Science Center for Education

This is by far the cheapest paid activity weโ€™ve found in Thailand! We would visit the Science Center at least once, if not twice a week. The first few times we visited, we would explore each floor to see and learn about various science-related info. But for a 2-year-old it was only entertaining to a certain extent. But on one of the floors is an indoor play space for young children. Our daughter loved to stay there for a few hours using the slides, building with giant legos, collecting pretend fruits and eggs in a basket, or colouring pages with the crayons. If you have older kids who can sit still and enjoy a show, there is also a Planetarium that has shows running several times per day. Location | Website | Price: $2.50CAD for 2 adults (children under 3 are free)

4. Sea Life Ocean World

This aquarium is in the heart of Bangkok, making it an easy tourist attraction to visit for those with kids. The tickets you get allow you to see the animals in the aquarium, and also the wax statues at Madame Tussaudโ€™s Museum; the bonus is you can do the wax museum on a different day if the kiddo gets a bit tired. There are sharks, crabs, penguins, seahorses, turtles, and many other aquatic animals to be seen. Fair warning, visiting the aquarium will be a splurge for budget travellers, but children under 3 years are free. Location | Website | Price: $100CAD

5. HarborLand

There are several HarborLand locations across Thailand, and they tend to be located in larger malls in bigger cities. We managed to visit the Sindhorn Midtown location, as it was the cheapest option that was nearby to us. The space is large (even for the smaller location), and has a secondary level upstairs for smaller children that made it somewhat worth the money. You do also have to purchase their socks (for both adults and kids alike), but once you buy them once, everyone takes them with them to every indoor play place across Bangkok. If your kids are older than 4 or 5 years of age, I would totally recommend spending the money and taking them to MEGA HarbourLand as it has waaaay more to do for older kids. Location | Website | Price: $38CAD (2.5 hours of play)

6. Lumphini Park

Lumphini Park is one of the most well-known and popular parks in Bangkok. It boasts large, green trees, a large pond, a playground, and a paved path. We used the playground there a handful of times, but the most fun we had while visiting was going on the paddle swan boat ride on the pond. Our daughter had a blast looking out while her mom and dad did all of the work. She was happy to wave at other swan drivers passing by and did not seem to mind wearing a large life jacket while on the journey. Location | Website | Price: Free

A beautiful park in the heart of Bangkok, this park has lots to offer for young and old alike. There are two playgrounds, one on either side of the park. There is a paved path on the outskirts of the park for those who wish to run or walk. At the back of the park, there are courts for basketball, volleyball, and footvol. As Canadians, we are no strangers to ice skating, but we now spend our winters abroad, so sometimes we miss the winter fun for brief moments of time. There are a few places to ice skate indoors in Bangkok, and these places are great hits for those who have never skated before, or who just want to skate for old-timeโ€™s sake. You can rent skates and helmets and spend a couple of hours on the ice. Be sure to bring some warm clothing, as being on the ice over time is colder than you might think.
